INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS TRAINING DEPARTMENT

Phone 506-635-1221, Fax 506-672-1185

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Please read the below information carefully and sign and return ASAP the training release form at the end of this letter to prevent dispatch issues in the future. Please return to Union Hall via mailed to the above address, dropped off at Union Hall, faxed to number above or scanned and e-mailed to the above e-mail address. If you are unsure of your pass book number please fill and return all other information and leave the pass book number blank. DO NOT SEND TO NBCSA DIRECTLY.

As you are aware, as part of our collective agreement the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 502 (IBEW 502) will dispatch members for work to the Electrical Contractors Association of New Brunswick (ECANB) member contractors who have and maintain valid New Brunswick Construction Safety Association (NBCSA) courses in the following:

  • Safety Orientation
  • WHMIS
  • Fall Protection I
  • Confined Space Awareness

Note: Only courses offered by NBCSA will be accepted with the exception of two courses WHMIS and Lock-out put on by WorkSafe NB. Courses in fall arrest, confined space put on by others (example: HSE) are not acceptable.

The IBEW 502 Training Department is in the process of collecting training information of the membership in order to ensure its members are properly trained and to coordinate present and future training courses. This will ensure the safety training needs of the members are met and seamless dispatch will occur.

In the past some of the NBCSA training was done by IBEW Local 502 and some by our Union Contractors on an “as needed basis”. At present there are multiple training data bases for employer sponsored courses and those done by the union. If the release form is not signed, NBCSA will not allow the union to access the information due to privacy issues. This can be corrected if the enclosed released form is completed and signed by all the members. This will allow the Union Training Department to access all NBCSA training done by all its union members regardless of who done/ paid for the training in the past. This will also ensure up-to-date training records are maintained and people will be credited with the courses properly, avoid redundant training on the members own time as well as facilitate the scheduling of future courses to keep safety training updated. Any member who signed and returned the release form will then be able to contact the Union Training Department to get status on their NBCSA training.
